Arias: Lydia Brotherton, Soprano; Miranda Loud, Alto;                                                   Andrew Brown, Tenor; Jacob Scharfman, Bass

The annual performance of the Holy Week Passion music on Good Friday was one of the musical highlights of the Leipzig church year, for on this day, concerted music was only presented in one of the four churches for which Bach was responsible. The Matthew Passion for three choirs and two orchestras is Bach’s most dramatic and complex score – startling and arresting choruses contrasting with sublime solo arias. On this occasion we observe the 25th Anniversary of Frederick Jodry’s choral conducting at Brown, with four Brown Choir Alumni who are making careers in Early Music brought together to sing the arias. Simon Wall, a tenor from Westminster Abbey, will sing the role of the Evangelist.

Friday April 7, 7:30 PM:       Grace Church, Providence RI

“ . . . a shimmering, upbeat rendition of the B-Minor Mass, befitting the most seasoned ensembles . . . Jodry is a natural when it comes to music of this period, bringing a dance-like lilt to it.”
